Michael Levin, Z”L

1984 - 2006

Michael Levin was a brave and dedicated young man who immigrated from Philadelphia in 2002 to Israel and voluntarily chose to draft into the IDF Paratroopers Unit.

During his annual home visit, the Second Lebanon War broke out in Israel. Michael made the selfless decision to return to his unit and fight alongside them, in order to defend the country and people he loved. Unfortunately, Michael fell in battle in 2006.

During his service, Michael came across many hardships that lone soldiers face when trying to draft,  such as finding the correct unit and information, as well as during his service, like not always having a Shabbat meal to go to or someone to turn to. While serving, Michael would speak to people about how after his release he would make a change and help other lone soldiers to make sure they had the support they need.

Before his passing, Michael always spoke about his dream to provide support for lone soldiers that he himself lacked while in the army.

The Michael Levin Base dedicates each day to fulfilling Michael’s dream by supporting lone soldiers and lone b’not sheirut too.

May his memory continue to be a blessing.
